    Foundation

    Foundation The foundation stone of Christ Church was laid on Ascension Day, 27th May 1927, by Lady Lucie MacMillan under the oversight of the Church Missionary Society (CMS)
  • 1927-1950s

    Christ Children's Church

    Originally known as Christ Children's Church, the chapel was specifically designed to cater to the spiritual needs of children. From the beginning, children were active participants in scripture reading, music, and leading worship.
  • 1990s

    "Kids to Kids" Programme

    The church established the transformative "Kids to Kids" programme, providing a supportive learning environment, encouraging peer-to-peer mentorship, and facilitating reintegration of vulnerable children into society.
  • 1993

    Transition to Parish

    The Late Archbishop Manasses Kuria initiated the process of transforming Christ Church into a fully-fledged parish, marking structural reorganisation, expansion of congregational life, and growth in ministry.
  • 2017

    90 Years Celebration

    Christ Church Westlands celebrated 90 years of God's faithfulness with a special anniversary and confirmation service presided over by The Most Rev. Dr. Jackson Ole Sapit, Archbishop of Kenya.

A Distinctive Ministry to Children

One of the defining characteristics of Christ Church Westlands has been its enduring focus on children’s ministry. Early records highlight a vibrant and intentional engagement with children, symbolised by the widely recognised emblem of a mother hippopotamus and her young, representing protection, nurture, and guidance.

In the early 1990s, the church established the “Kids to Kids” programme, a transformative initiative aimed at providing a supportive learning environment, encouraging peer-to-peer mentorship, and facilitating reintegration of vulnerable children into society.

This programme marked a shift from traditional children’s ministry to a more holistic, socially responsive model of mission that continues to impact lives today.

Worship & Anglican Identity

ACK Christ Church Westlands is a parish within the All Saints’ Cathedral Diocese, one of the dioceses of the Anglican Church of Kenya. The diocese is distinctive in that it is under the leadership of the Archbishop of Kenya and serves a predominantly urban population in Nairobi.

The parish remains firmly rooted in Anglican liturgical tradition, as reflected in the centrality of Word and Sacrament, use of the Book of Common Prayer (ACK Liturgy), and observance of the Church Calendar including Ascension Day, Lent, and Easter.

At the same time, it has embraced contextual expressions of worship appropriate to an urban Kenyan setting, including vibrant music ministry and diverse service formats.
